This blog first appeared at www.NestingCards.com as a part of the ongoing discussion about what nesting is and how to create a sense of HOME that feeds your soul and welcomes others. Enjoy!
Instruments, lyrics, sounds, and music punctuate our lives. Theme-songs for life were popular drivers for having a good day a few years ago. Music that fits a time, space, or mood remains a part of every culture. Thus, music is a part of nesting. Whether the sound of silence is your music, or another combination of voices and instruments is, music provides a soundtrack for our lives.
Recently a friend played a last-century song that described past relationships and disappointments. Listening prompted sadness in me. I hope for more joy-filled music to describe new relationships. Afterwards, I began thinking about music that might capture my hopes for relationships. Now, I’m listening for music that captures these hopes.
Music inspires. Music provides story. Music evokes emotions – happy and hopeful or dis-spirited and sad. Music in movies tells us something happy is happening or something scary is right around the corner. Three generations recognize the epic Star Wars music from John Williams.
Four or five generations of listeners were at the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band concert at the State Fair. Concerts provide music that takes us away from our everyday lives, that creates a shared experience of joy, and that give us something to talk about for weeks – even years. Many people remember the first time they heard a group or went to a concert and how it made them feel.
No matter our age, music speaks to our hearts and souls in ways that stay with us; prompt us to sing along; evoke memories; encourage energetic activity; and that can help us relax. Music has celebratory and inspirational powers. Throughout the millennia, music has captivated and catapulted; worked magic and inspired worship; and brought comfort.
What music motivates you and your day? What music brings you comfort and lets you unwind at the end of a difficult day? Populate your nest with the music that feeds your soul!
Nesting is about the objects and experiences that create a sense of home. Without home, it is difficult to maintain health, find joy, or to be productive during our workdays. Enjoy the Nesting series of blogs on your search for a deep sense of home. –Jana
